As Holland has its clogs, can't we keep our shawl?
Many people will have been stunned to hear National Eisteddfod organiser Hywel Edwards advocate getting rid of traditional costume. Is it really necessary to take such a major step in order to move forward? asks tourism expert Peter Cole WALES is a modern country, confident of its place in the world and proud of its culture and heritage. So do we really need to turn our back on the traditional icons of shawls, miners' lamps and - heaven forefend - even ddraig goch? I do understand what Hywel Edwards means. Could it be that such heavily repeated themes can be seen as twee? Maybe a little bit for the people who live here and who know that nobody really wears shawls and mob caps in the street any more. Holland is usually pictured as a land of glowing tulip fields, with windmills beside every canal, and country folk dressed in clogs and national costume, far removed from the typical Dutchman but still a traditional picture of Holland that visitors around the world want to see.
PureSpectrum, Inc. Will Develop T-8 Fluorescent Prototype
SAVANNAH, Ga., April 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PureSpectrum, Inc. (Pink Sheets: PSPM) will develop a ballast prototype for a four-tube, four- foot T-8 lamp, which will create additional markets for PureSpectrum Technology by ensuring that the proprietary circuitry design is viable for all major categories of fluorescent and High Intensity Discharge lighting. Lighting systems are responsible for approximately 35 percent of the electricity costs in a typical commercial building and 10 percent in industrial settings. In an effort to reduce lighting energy costs, T-8 fluorescent lamps with electronic ballasts have quickly become the standard for new fixtures and retrofits in commercial office buildings, schools, and a substantial portion of industrial lighting. PureSpectrum Technology's patented circuitry design to improve electronic ballasts has already been successfully applied to ballast prototypes for T-4 fluorescent lamps as well as Compact Fluorescent Lighting and High Intensity Discharge bulbs.
