| Modi, Nitish Concerned about Bihar's Future
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, in his speech on the first day of the two-day Thakur Prasad Memorial lecture in Patna on Sunday, expressed his concerns over the condition of Bihar saying it neither had a port nor oil resources like some other states and his main concerns remained how to bridge this vast gap between Bihar and other developed states. Modi who just returned from a visit to Gujarat to get an insight into the reasons for its astounding economic success, said Bihar following its division in 2000, was not left with much natural resources and though the state was exploring various ideas to achieve economic freedom, the process was tough and time-consuming. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who followed Modi at the lecture podium, was more upbeat, and said what Bihar needed was inspiration and encouragement.
Koito Manufacturing Succeeds in Commercializing the World's First ...
Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has developed and commercialized an LED headlight employing white LEDs. The headlight will be mounted on Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus LS600h. Following the intelligent adaptive front-lighting system (AFS) and a mercury-free discharge headlamp, it is the third product launched by Koito which will be the world's first commercialization. Thus far, LEDs have already been utilized for automobile lamps, for example, red LEDs for rear combination lamps and white LEDs for license plate lamps. A light source of headlight, however, requires a large amount of light and high luminance. Therefore, the commercialization of a headlight with white LEDs has been considered difficult. Aiming at the early commercialization of headlights using white LEDs as a light source, Koito jointly developed a white LED with the highest class of output in the world with Nichia Corp.

Milan's surreal, supersized creations
MILAN: The Italian designer gazed in bewilderment at the gigantic cake plate blown up to the size of a large table, clad in glistening white gold mosaic and mounted on a neo-Classical plinth. "Why has everything become so big?" he asked. Good question. There were lots of big things at the Milan Furniture Fair last week. At a time when the global furniture market is booming, the fair itself was very big indeed, with more exhibitors and more visitors doing more business than ever. There were big traffic jams, as cabs choked the streets. There were big parties: from Miuccia Prada's bash to toast the opening of the Tobias Rehberger exhibition at her art gallery, to the D.I.Y. rave thrown by a bunch of trans-European design students in their campsite. There was a very big corporate statement from Poltrona Frau, the new colossus of Italy's furniture industry, which commandeered a slice of the commercial fair at Rho-Pero and emblazoned McKinseyesque slogans on the walls.
What the Dickens
THERE we were, all looking forward to what the press release promised was an "indoor dark boar ride", when news comes from Chatham Maritime that it all has to be cancelled - or at least put back by six weeks. Dickens World had been due to open yesterday, complete with Europe's longest indoor boat ride on what used to be derelict dockland. This would have taken us from Newgate Prison, past Quilps Creek, through a smelly sewer and across the rooftops of London, before tumbling down the Fall of Death to catch up with Magwitch on the Kent Marshes. .
