Bus And Train To Chilli Peppers And V8 Race

PlaceMakers V8 Supercars and Red Hot Chilli Peppers fans will be able to leave their cars locked in the garage this weekend, as special transport services put on by the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) will have them arriving right at the door for each event.

ARTA’s General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert says, “A special return train and bus connection fare is being offered to V8 patrons travelling to and from Pukekohe Park Raceway from Friday 20 April to Sunday 22 April.

“For passengers travelling from most stations on our rail network, the best fare is a $10 special event ticket which covers the train journey and includes a free connecting shuttle bus between Pukekohe Station and the raceway. A very convenient and cost effective way of getting to the venue”, says Mr Lambert.

Don't wait for a fatality: Crack down on fire safety

When you're trying to sleep, do homework, or just relax, fire alarms become an annoyance. I mean, nothing ever happens, right?

So imagine my surprise when I opened my door Monday night and got a face full of smoke. Five minutes later, I was standing outside Rodgers with every other resident there, wondering what had just happened.

According to The BG News, what happened was that someone on my floor had put a warm lava lamp in their closet, covering it with clothes to hide it. Apparently, they were concerned they weren't supposed to have the lava lamp in their room, but I was left wondering why it was there in the first place.

Didn't students know the dangers of having fire hazards in their rooms?

The answers should be yes, but because it's so easy to forget or hide fire hazards, it doesn't matter.

St. James tops G.W. Long, falls to Russell County

ASBO for Turf Moor car crook

POSTERS of a prolific criminal are being put up around Turf Moor to stop him breaking into cars on match days.

Police say the posters of Sean Nerney will be put up around Burnley Football Club's ground for every home day match to let football fans know of the 28-year-old's anti-social behaviour order (ASBO).

Nerney, a convicted thief from Hobart Street, Burnley, was issued with the ASBO to help reduce and prevent car crime in the borough and around the ground.

If he breaches the order, which lasts until February 2009, he could face a five-year jail sentence.

Police are hoping that raising awareness of the ASBO conditions will enable football supporters to help them to enforce the order.

Inspector Damian Darcy from Burnley Police said: "The ASBO was secured to help prevent offences of car crime around Burnley FC so it is entirely appropriate that we make sure people in that vicinity are aware of it.

The Grenadier's Oil Lamp

Crafted from genuine surplus grenades, Elseware's latest oil lamp offers a wonderfully unnerving experience for one's guests, especially if you claim to have just got it from eBay and say that it's the first time you've lit it.

That said, the gold- or silver-plated editions don't quite carry the same menace as the pitch-black original. What next, Swarovsky crystal-studded bayonet bookmarks? A defused landmine paperweight with sequins and lace trim?

Paying $50 for these will make quite a blast in your wallet, however, so perhaps get the emptied grenade for $7 here or, indeed, from eBay, then grab one of those Mason-jar oil and wick craft sets from Hobby Lobby for $5. Homemade fun with decommissioned weaponry and naked flame!
