NEW DELHI: Energy and environment-conscious residents of West Delhi have stolen a march over their counterparts in the rest of the Capital by becoming the largest consumers of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL). With both environmentalists and the State Power Department pushing for phasing out the energy-guzzling incandescent bulbs, consumers are being sensitised about the merits of opting for the CFLs that save a great deal of energy and also protect the environment. Data collated by BSES power distribution company show that 1.32 lakh customers have opted for the energy-saving CFLs in West Delhi, followed by 1.13 lakh in South Delhi. East Delhi and Central Delhi are at the third and fourth spot with over 89,000 and 18,000 CFLs being bought respectively. The survey also indicates that the 15-watt CFL, which is equivalent to the 75-watt incandescent bulb, is most popular among customers.

Mumbai, March 25: Piped gas is not new to residents of South Mumbai living in old buildings. But supply, which commenced in the 1860s, stopped a century later after the Bombay Gas Company ran into difficulties, especially with increasing traffic. The gas was generated using coal, which was initially imported from Australia and England, but later Indian coal was used. The companys office was at DN Road and factory at Lower Parel. .

THAT those who were noisy about the decorative lamps issue are now training their guns on the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) is not surprising.
The CICC is the most controversial project undertaken by the administration of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and critics hounded it throughout its construction last year.

It is thus surprising that after the facility was used as venue of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation in January, the CICC was spared from scrutiny until recently.
With the number of critics and this being an election season, Capitol officials probably expected questions on the CICC construction to be raised earlier.
