The Energy Commission has recommended the replacement of six million incandescent lamps with contact fluorescent lamps throughout the country as a measure to conserve energy and help save the nation from the current energy crisis. The replacement which is based on the commissions statistics is expected to reduce demand and consumption of electricity by between 200 megawatts and 240 megawatts during the peak hours (between 6 pm and 11 pm). The acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Alfred Ofosu Ahenkora said the commission presented the recommendation to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning in October last year. Spring business is blooming
And for a name like Gensler, which dates back about 30 years on a 300-acre Davis Junction farm, it was time to try something new. Kristin Gensler, part of the second generation of Gensler owners, knew that a second location needed to reflect the changes in the garden industry. She envisioned a fresh look, strategy and, mostly, location. Davis is more rural, dont have many neighbors out there. Theres so many people in the Rockford area that have never heard of Gensler, but we wanted to get our name out there more, she said. Gensler Gardens, 102 Orth Road, is behind new condos and near several subdivisions. Indoor Sports Center can be seen in the distance. With 12,000 square feet of retail and 25,000 square feet of greenhouses, it plans to position itself as a main retail center and cafe for that neighborhood.
Nicaragua deals blow to drug traffickers
Managua, April 17 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) The dismantling of a drug trafficking gang headquarters, allegedly belonging to the Mexican Sinaloa cartel, is one of the strongest blows ever dealt to international drug trafficking in Nicaragua. The operation started over the weekend with the arrest of five Mexicans in a car with Nicaraguan licence plates on the Panamerican road. The men were arrested Friday after a brief shooting and attempted bribe. As part of a three-month long police-army investigation, raids were carried out in different parts of the country, which resulted in the discovery of a 1,640-yard runway in a ranch, 42 miles north of Managua. They also found firearms, radio communication equipment, lamps and other means, as well as another Mexican, with a tattoo that reads Sinaloa on his back, said authorities.
