| Letters: Forgiveness remains among best of traits
Around the world, religious leaders challenge their members to resolve their difference and be peacemakers. However, it seems to me, they cannot do the job alone. Individuals like you and me have a role to play as well. I'm afraid many people today have lost faith in the importance of practicing forgiveness. To have good dialogue with our neighbor or family is a starting point. In our lives, we should work for peaceful settlements and show forgiveness. I'm reminded of the touching story of forgiveness that took place in the Lancaster County of Pennsylvania, on Oct. 2, 2006. Amish men and women took a stand for forgiveness after a gunman killed five young girls at a school house. What was most impressive about the Amish response to the heartbreaking deaths of their children was the way that these peace-loving Christians reached out with support to the widow and children of the gunman.
Celaya set for battle at Palma
This time, Celaya (28-3, 15 KOs) is set to fight April 21 at Palma High School in a show being dubbed as the first chapter in "The Trilogy of Celaya." His opponent has not yet been named. "Sometimes fighters are not in the right frame of mind," Celaya said Tuesday afternoon, explaining the most recent period of inactivity. "Sometimes you're not comfortable with the negotiations with the promoter." In other words, sometimes things happen - and sometimes they just don't. And lately, they just haven't. Since suffering a brutal loss to undefeated James "Spider" Webb in 2005, Celaya's career and personal life have suffered. Months after that loss on national TV, he was struck in the head by a shot from a pellet gun and was taken to a San Jose hospital by helicopter.
Palace vows prosecution of officials involved in lamps deal scam
MALACAANG said those behind the alleged P365-million lamppost scam would be prosecuted regardless of their so-called political connections. The Palace issued the statement following the hint of reelectionist Senator Panfilo Lacson that many people in the Arroyo administration benefited from the alleged scam aside from two Cebu mayors and their engineering staff and regional public works officials. Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007 Coverage The Office of the Ombudsman has issued six-month preventive suspension orders against Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza pending investigation of their alleged involvement in the overpricing scandal. Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said there would be no sacred cows in the Ombudsman's investigation of the case.
It all Started with Edison!
(CSRwire) CONSHOHOCKEN, PA - April 10 2007- Flick on. Flick off. The magic of the light bulb is simply amazing. Clearly, Thomas Edison's incandescent light bulb discovery was a landmark 19th century invention. And now, more than 100 years past, we are still filling our shopping carts with this everyday necessity. Yet times have changed. People are questioning old habits and creating new lifestyles with a charge to be environmentally responsible; everyday in some simple way! And conscientious individuals are trading in their incandescent bulbs for the energy-saving compact florescent light bulb (CFL); a light bulb that can last up to ten times longer. In these times of environmental responsibility, this translates into better everyday energy practices and big cost savings. IKEA, the world's largest home furnishings retailer, understands the value of CFL lights, as well as the need for recycling them.
