George rescues town’s ancient market charter
A MEDIEVAL deed granting Wigton the right to hold a Tuesday market is to be on show to the public for the first time. The market charter – one of Wigton's oldest documents – is written in Latin on a roll of sheep skin and bears the royal seal of King Henry III. George Scott, of Knoxwood wildlife rescue centre, has spent years searching for the document produced in 1262, to bring it home to Wigton. He is paying for the charter to be transcribed and wants to display a copy in the town's market hall after it has been renovated. He said: “It was lost for many years and it's been a long drawn-out process finding it. As far as I know it's never been on display before. It's really nice to have it back. It is part of the heart of Wigton. “Hopefully, it will be presented as it is, in Latin, and in English side by side.

SACRED SPACE: Festive Spirit
The principles of the Sikh faith are inspiring equality, an obligation to help those who are less fortunate than themselves, tolerance and respect for other individuals, communities and faiths. During the festival of Baisakhi, we can all reflect on the valuable role that the Sikh community plays in Britain and the Sikh contribution to our economy, society and national life. Tony Blair, British prime minister Life is a festival only to the wise. Ralph W Emerson The truth is that existence wants your life to become a festival... because when you are unhappy, you also throw unhappiness all around. Osho There will also be some people who concentrate their attention on the rituals of worship and the offerings being made, such as the breaking of coconuts, the waving of lamps and incense, and the devotion expressed through these rituals.
